Go Green with Digi-Data

Digi-Data saves power and lowers electric fees using DigiData's PowerNap DPM.

DPM green power saver

Power consumption, heat, and its associated cooling expense is a major concern in today's data center. Digi-Data's DPM feature spins down most of the drives (except for select "signature/configuration" drives) if they are inactive for a selected period of time. As most drives are bound into RAID groups, the entire group will spin down if inactive. The setting is adjustable from ten minutes up to 12 hours, depending on the data access behavior of the applications. Spin-up is also managed or sequenced to control power loading. Unlike MAID systems, where a finite number of disks can be spinning at any given time, the entire array can 'come alive' depending on application requirements. With DPM, large digital archiving applications can have the power utilization of tape, with the performance of disk.
