Digi-Data Introduces its AMS: Archive Management System
Digi-Data’s AMS offers a family of general purpose archive solutions that virtualize multiple tiers of storage behind a single mount point (or network share). From small to large, each AMS solution utilizes intelligent, automated data movement between tiers of storage to minimize energy costs while delivering the right combination of price, availability, and access characteristics.
Single Mount Point Simplicity:
By providing a single mount point or a drive share, you can quickly and easily manage your data migration across tiers of storage. Copy and/or move capabilities, based on data characteristics, are now centrally managed. Since it’s easy to use, and has no special API requirements, data can be either manually copied into the archive, or transferred using synchronization software, which can automate the ingestion task.
Intelligent:
The AMS provides selectable migration policies. Data migration, replication and purge policies are easily established and are based on the needs of your organization. These actions can occur as often as every minute to as long as once a year. Files that are moved still appear to be resident in online storage, so searching by project or file name is easy.
Open Access:
The Digi-Data AMS utilizes classic operating system interfaces and open API’s to insure access to files is maintained for as long as needed. AMS supports SMB, CIFS, NFS, FTP, and HTTP. Open, removable media formats supported include UDF, ISO, and TAR. (Conversely, proprietary file and media formats can prevent files from being read in the future, and can create vendor lock-in.)
Pre-Configured, Pre-Tested & Customizable:
The Digi-Data AMS is sold in a number of pre-configured and pre-tested configurations designed to address your particular needs. Solutions range from 5 TB Blu-ray optical-based systems to multi-petabyte disk-over-tape architectures. Regardless, all components are tested and certified to interoperate flawlessly.
Built-in Security:
AMS includes security features such as share permissions and file permissions, which are integrated with Active Directory. 256bit AES encryption is also included.
Ecko, centralized archive approach:
If your organization has branch offices or employees working at home, the functionality of the AMS can be extended across a WAN using local appliances. Ecko is a 400 GB network attached appliance that allows fast access to archived digital assets, while providing centralized protection in the corporate data center’s AMS. Using a lighter variant of the AMS core software, it maintains synchronization with the central system as well as migrating older files. The result: Ecko never gets completely full, radically simplifying administration.
Administration:
Setup and manage your archival policies using the WEB based interface, the Command Line Interface (CLI), or both. Remote administration is also possible through SSH or VPN.it maintains synchronization with the central system as well as migrating older files. The result: Ecko never gets completely full, radically simplifying administration.
